Luxe Prep + Aftercare
To get the best tan of your life, your prep + aftercare matter.
Before Your Appointment
- Exfoliate thoroughly: Use a mitt or exfoliating glove (no scrubs with oils). Start 2–3 days before your appointment, and exfoliate again the day before for smooth, even skin.
- Arrive with bare skin: No lotion, deodorant, makeup, perfume, or body oils the day of your tan. These act as barriers and cause uneven color.
- Remove all old tanner: Your skin must be completely free of past spray tan or self-tanner products to avoid patchy results.
- Wax or shave at least 24 hours before: Shaving too close to your appointment can cause streaks and irritation.
- Schedule beauty services before your tan: Facials, waxing, nails, and massages should be done 1–2 days prior to your appointment, not after.
- Wear dark, loose-fitting clothing: Avoid tight bras, leggings, and light fabrics that can absorb bronzer post-session.
Immediately After Your Tan
- Avoid contact with water: No hand washing, sweating, or rain until your rinse time. Water can stop development or cause streaks.
- Rinse with warm water only: Do not use soap on your first rinse unless instructed otherwise. Pat skin dry gently afterward.
- Do not apply lotion, deodorant, or makeup after your tan: Wait until after your first rinse and tan is set.
Vacation Aftercare 101
- Rinse off after pools, ocean, or hot tubs: Chlorine and salt water fade your tan faster. A quick rinse helps preserve color.
- Quick dips only: Limit time in water. Long soaks or hot tubs will drastically reduce your tan life.
- Pat dry, don’t rub: Always use a soft towel and avoid vigorous rubbing to prevent uneven fading.
- Use spray tan-safe sunscreen: Look for oil-free, alcohol-free options like SunBum SPF 30, Coola SPF 30, or Australian Gold Botanical SPF.
Daily Glow Maintenance
- Moisturize 2x a day: Use a hydrating, fragrance-free, oil-free lotion to extend your tan's life and avoid patchy fading.
- Avoid bar soaps and body washes with sulfates: Stick to tan-safe products to prevent stripping your tan.
- Limit exfoliating and shaving: Shaving and harsh scrubs can cause premature fading and uneven patches.
- Touch-up as needed: Use a self-tanning mousse or extender after a few days to refresh color and keep the tan even.
